Your First Lesson
Everyone is a little nervous going to a new place, so here is a description of what to expect from your first complementary lesson.
The whole experience will last about an hour.
The only rule about dress is to strive for comfort, so consider wearing loose clothing, smooth soled shoes (heels are optional), and please no tennis shoes. (Dark soles mark our floor.)
1. Assessment Stage
You will first meet with one of our Dance Supervisors who will ask you questions in order to understand:
What is your current dance experience? (Have you had lessons before?) Is there a special event coming up that needs to be considered in planning your experience? Is there a particular dance that you want to learn and why?
2. Instructor “Match-Making” Stage
Based on the answers that you give, the supervisor will select an instructor that fits your particular needs.
3. Dancing Stage
Your instructor will then work with you for 30 to 40 minutes teaching you basic elements, lead and follow, and a couple of basic dance steps. Within a few minutes, you will be having so much fun that you have forgotten that there is anyone else in the room. Your instructor’s goal is to prove to you that you can learn to dance and that it is much easier than you anticipated.
4. Presentation of Dance Packages
Your instructor then will go over what dance options make sense for your goals and will ask you to provide feedback on his or her teaching job.
